As a fourth year doctoral candidate, in addition to having completed comprehensive examinations and prospectus and working on the dissertation, my thoughts are also turning towards the job market and securing that first academic position. This purpose of this blog is to chronicle the trials and tribulations of completing my Ph.D. and finding that first job.

Out of Left Field

Talk about coming out of left field... I got a call this afternoon from one of the institutions that I applied to inviting me up for a campus visit. I say out of left field because I didn't do a telephone interview with these guys, they just looked over my application material and called me up.

Provided that "the higher ups" are okay with the fact that I should be done, but I won't have degree in hand (the search chair was okay with this), I should be flying up there around the end of March to be interviewed by them and for me to interview them as well while I am there.

For any of the academics out there that may be reading this, if you have any favorite interview questions that you like to ask during these campus visit interviews, I'd love to hear them in the next 25 days or so.
