Breaking into the Academy: What To Do With Peer Review?

As a fourth year doctoral candidate, in addition to having completed comprehensive examinations and prospectus and working on the dissertation, my thoughts are also turning towards the job market and securing that first academic position. This purpose of this blog is to chronicle the trials and tribulations of completing my Ph.D. and finding that first job.

What To Do With Peer Review?

About a month ago, I tried to revive an old conversation that we were having in Picking Up on an Old Idea. At the time it didn't go very far.

One of the pieces of that conversation dealt with publishing and peer review. Early this month I noticed a piece entitled Revising Peer Review? (which I actually saw in Stephen's Web ~ by Stephen Downes ~ Edu_RSS Most Recent - RSS old). It was a short piece that basically stated that the idea was worthy of further consideration, but it did link to another piece Peer Review and a Proposal for Revision.

In reading these two pieces, I am wondering how they fit into the conversation that we were having about peer review and AECT. Your thoughts anyone?
