As a fourth year doctoral candidate, in addition to having completed comprehensive examinations and prospectus and working on the dissertation, my thoughts are also turning towards the job market and securing that first academic position. This purpose of this blog is to chronicle the trials and tribulations of completing my Ph.D. and finding that first job.

SANTEC Seminar: Podcasting in eLearning - 22nd - 28th February

Dear Colleagues,

Its a pleasure to welcome you to our first SANTEC online seminar of 2007. This seminar on "Podcasting in e-learning" will take place fromThursday, 22 Feb to Wednesday, 28 February 2007. The presenter is Prof Derek Keats, Executive Director, Information & Communication Services, University of the Western Cape, South Africa. We will also be joined byAllan Carrington who is a Learning Designer from the Centre for Learning and Professional Development at University of Adelaide.

We'll move through several steps in the seminar to allow us to form a sense of community and purpose, learn about good practices in podcasting and experiment with making our own podcasts. Our process is structured as follows:

1) Introductions: Where we're from and why we're interested in podcasting. Any burning questions? - starting on 22nd

2) What is podcasting and why is it useful to education in developingcountries? - starting on 22nd

3) What does good podcasting practice look like? Recommend a podcast. - starting on 23rd

4) What does it take to get started? Make your own podcast and share it. - starting on 23rd

5) Closing reflections - 27th - 28th

To join the seminar you will need to:

1) Register for the SANTEC site at http://santec.uwc.ac/. (Many of you have already done this).

2) Login to the SANTEC site at http://santec.uwc.ac

3) Choose the "SANTEC Seminars" group from the drop down groups menu in the middle left hand side of the page.

4) Click "Go"

5) Click on the link to "Discussion Forum" in the middle of the page.

6) Choose the "Podcasting in eLearning" forum.
